Chocolate, Walnut, & Maca Energy Bites

I am a huge fan of chocolate. I love everything about chocolate. I’m not talking about your standard run-of-the-mill, over-processed and over-sugared milk chocolate. I’m talking about pure, rich, and decadent raw cacao.

Raw Cacao | Toned & Fit

Raw Cacao beans in their natural, unprocessed, unaltered state are rich in nutrients and beneficial to health. Raw chocolate or cacao powder contains many important vitamins and minerals including:

  • Magnesium, and other essential minerals including calcium, sulfur, zinc, iron, copper, potassium, and manganese
  • Polyphenols called flavonoids, with antioxidant properties
  • Vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, E
  • Essential heart-healthy fat: oleic acid a monounsaturated fat
  • Protein
  • Fiber

Raw cacao has also been shown to lower blood pressure and improve circulation, promote cardiovascular function, neutralize free radicals, improve digestion, and enhance mental well-being.

Maca is another one of my favorite superfoods. Maca root is native to the high Andean Mountains and is known for its incredible qualities that enable it to nourish and balance the body’s delicate endocrine system. Maca naturally energizes, without the jitters and crashes of caffeine, it can aid in reproductive function, boost libido, and balance hormones. Maca is loaded with nutritious vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and plant sterols including vitamins B1, B2, B, E, D, E, iron, potassium, copper, magnesium, selenium, phosphorous, and calcium. It is also a fiber-rich food and good source of plant protein. My favorite Maca Powder is Navitas Naturals Raw Maca.

Walnuts contain manganese and fiber, as well as omega-3 fatty acids which are responsible for most of the nuts health benefits. Adding walnuts to your diet has been shown to improve your reaction to stress, lower blood pressure, reduced the risk of breast cancer, increased bone health, and protect the heart and brain. Healthy fats are important for neurological function.
